China could be a far more formidable US rival than the Soviet Union ever was

China appears to be playing the same game against the US that American leaders once used against the Soviet Union, a new report explains, making the case that China appears to be a more formidable challenge for the US than its Cold War rival.

The US countered the Soviet Union by offsetting their conventional military might through economic power and technological advancement. A new study authored by former deputy US defense secretary Robert Work and his former colleague at the Department of Defense Greg Grant argues that Beijing has both the will and ability to do the same to the US, which will need to change its game plan if it hopes to remain competitive.

"The Soviets were never able to match, much less overcome, America's technological superiority," the authors explained in their report released by the Center for New American Security. "The same may not be true for China."

They assert that the US, as China pursues military and technological parity and eventually dominance, may fall victim to a "deliberate, patient, and robustly resourced military-technical offset strategy." China has previously dismissed such observations as "Cold War thinking."

The US has not faced a competitor with a gross domestic product greater than 40 percent of its own in well over a century. China's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is currently around 63 percent that of the US, and China is projected to have the largest economy in the world within the next decade or so.

"The United States will be unlikely to be able to spend its way out of the Chinese technological challenge" as it did with the Soviet Union, their report read, stressing that the US will, instead, "need to out-innovate and out-offset the Chinese."

Not some big surprise, given that China has 10x Russia's population, but the same output per capita. At $200b a year, China is spending on defense, when adjusted for income differences (i.e. 1/7 US per capita income), about the same amount or more than the Pentagon. That's why they've been coming out with new ship and aircraft types seemingly every other year.

Look this guy is Chinese educated. He’s young and foolish. He doesn’t even acknowledge that the Chinese economy is failing

China gets into a war with Russia.

On the first day, China sends 1 million soldiers across the border.

Russia kills them all.

On the second day, China sends 1 million soldiers across the border.

Russia kills them all.

On the third day, China sends 1 million soldiers across the border.

Russia kills them all.

On the fourth day, Russia surrenders.

Failing?

China makes everything sold in America.

(I know, not everything, but close enough)

We are rapidly accumulating a MASSIVE amount of debt.

We have been sold out, by our own businesses.

It not for Nixon and Kissinger China could have been another Soviet Republic by the end of Vietnam War.
It would be a relatively free independent country now with the economy behind India and in no way a powerful rival to US.

We had our chance to break up China during the Cultural Revolution. The South was ready to split over modernization. I don’t know now what it would take to reach the same level of internal unrest. Current unrest in HK is just a flea bite. China is truly now the biggest threat to mankind.

Yep, I didn’t say this but it wouldn’t even be one China but more like two or three different countries.

Add in: China graduates 10X more engineers of all types than the US.

On the fourth day, Russia surrenders. hits all major Chinese civilian and military sites with nuclear weapons ending the problem.

On the fifth day, China, with a vastly reduced population, ceases to exist as a functioning country.

Just last year, China set the largest trade surplus in all recorded human history, with America.

For real.

The U.S. is the worlds largest food and energy exporter. We also produce the majority of almost everything else we consume.

China relies on foreign energy and cannot feed itself.

Clinton forced the WTO to admit China, thereby giving them access to Western markets.

Yet they make everything, in every store, on every website, in America.

(I know not EVERYTHING, but it is time to bring back American manufacturing)

Now. For real.

President Trump, you really need to lead, on this issue.

For real.
