In April, a Navy SEAL was rejected from a job in the Fire Department of New York because he was over the age requirement by about seven months, after public outrage, legislation has now been passed that will allow him to serve.

Some people can some people can’t.
Age limits size and weight limits were all put in place for reasons.
They have or are being killed off by political correctness.
I'm inclined to agree.I recall having once seen a video of a female trainee for the Los Angeles Fire Department doing some kind of training exercise with a ladder...testing strength, etc. It's one that the the male recruits were able to do with only a bit of difficulty...but she failed it miserably.
But she still completed training.
Pure bs. Why not change the law for everyone? Special rules are the bane of society

This former SEAL is likely more qualified than an affirmative action female hire for the FDNY.
Would it be allowed if you identify as a 30 year old?
What about if you doctor said you were as healthy as a 30 year old?
More moving the needle. I get hes awesome but we get upset when they do this for other special groups. We should be consistent. Either we have requirements or we dont.
Age limits like this are only good for mindless bureaucracies. Either you can, or you can’t. At age 37, you have 20-25 years in you, where you can do the job. I just read on the FDNY union page where required retirement is 65. So why not let the able do it!?
