Ukraine would be smart to include all the purges Stalin carried out in Ukraine rather than singling out the starvation episode since Stalin probably sent more Ukraine Christians to the Gulags than were starved to death in Ukraine and somewhere around 80% of those sent ultimately died from overwork and malnutrition while in the Gulag.

Just call it the Stalin purges, don't bother singling out a specific instance that the world noticed when the ongoing, methodical, eradication of Ukraine Christians was happening both before and after that.

No sweat, it's easy to misunderstand comments so maybe I took it wrong since I didn't understand your point.

Regards

"Read The War on the Weak."

I got hits on articles and a slight variation of that title, so is Edwin Black the author?

I’ve read “Harvest of Sorrow” by Robert Conquest!
If you haven’t read it? Read it!

Don’t deliberately so they won’t get any uppity independence ideas

Then don’t leave out Rawanda, what’s going on in S. Africa now, Bosnia-Herzogovena, etc.

Thank you for posting! Our moral development has not kept pace with the technological...I’ve long feared the coming age will be ruled by amoral high technology barbarians...

Bryan would’ve been a fiasco as President. Implementing his pro-silver agenda would’ve plunged the country into a Depression. Of course, that early flirtation with economic leftism might’ve halted its advance and prevented the future elections of Wilson & FDR.

Perhaps.

But see posts 11, 14, and 17 to really grasp why WJ Bryan was ultimately a great man and a most important voice for truth in his time.

I don’t know how accurate “Inherit the Wind” is, but WJB doesn’t end particularly well.

I don’t begrudge what he did here in my state of TN. But other than that, he was still a nutter when it came to economic & political policy and tried to marry Socialism with Christianity. Two things utterly at odds with one another, and the former, even in 1896, being a demonstrable failure.

Unfortunately, too, the capture by Bryan, Altgeld & Co. in 1896 led the Democrat Party away from sensible Bourbon Conservatism embodied by Grover Cleveland, the last NON-leftist Democrat President, and to the Socialist-Communism of today.

If I am not mistaken, the playwright was personally pro-Darwin.

Clearly the atheistic agenda won out and mention of God was rapidly removed from the education system. We, and all the generations following the trial have ‘inherited’ the resulting devastation and living with the fruit now.

But Bryan’s efforts were no less heroic and valiant. Truth always wins in the end - even if not in one’s earthly lifetime. Not so sure ‘Inherit the Wind’ did him and his giant personality justice.

Well, no, not at the Scopes trial.
The teacher was convicted of teaching evolution.

The verdict was later thrown out because of
the Judge’s instructions to the jury were
found improper.

The highlight of the trial for me was when
Darrow made some remark disparaging the court proceedings, and the judge harrumphed, “The court hopes the defense is not impugning the honor of this court.”

And Darrow replied, “His honor is entitled to hope.”

My pre-med upper-division Genetics classmates openly, emphatically advocated compulsory sterilization of the genetically deficient while we played with Drosophila melanogaster.

We had just watched a video on Spina Bifida. That was circa 1980.

The instructor smiled benignly as he listened. I felt like I was a human being who had suddenly realized he was surrounded by pod people.

Oh ok thanks. I don’t think I ever knew what the verdict of the actual trial was! And I am only vaguely familiar with the play also. Maybe skimmed through a few of the monologues in my theater courses.

We need hope in our world...based in truth.
