A December 2018 headline in the New York Times heralded the rare bit of good news the Times allows its readers in the Age of Trump. It read simply, “U.S. Murder Rate for 2018 Is on Track for a Big Drop.”
Although official FBI statistics will not be available until September, the Times acknowledged that “the murder rate in the United States in 2018 is on track for the largest one-year drop in five years.” The preliminary estimate of 7 percent translates into about a thousand fewer deaths.
One word missing from the article by Jeff Asher, not surprisingly, is “Trump.” Another word missing is “Obama.” Asher and his editors prefer that the cause of crime fluctuations remains a mystery.
If there were a Pulitzer for evasion, Asher would be in the running. “Tracking the change in murder nationally is far easier than explaining why it’s happening,” he wrote. “There is still no consensus on why murder rose nationally in 2015 and 2016, though various theories have been proposed, including simple randomness.”
Among those who are willing to see what happened in 2015 and in 2016, there is a consensus. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel put his finger on it during an emergency meeting of mayors and police chiefs in late 2015.

In 2015, the murder rate rose almost 11 percent, the most dramatic spike in 50 years. In 2016, murders increased 8.5 percent over 2015. Nearly 3,000 more Americans were murdered in 2016 than in 2014, roughly 1,800 of them black.
In 2017, the national murder rate flattened out. In 2018, it declined. In 2019, it again seems to be declining.
Not in DC, or other metropolitan areas.
Trump is giving early release to thousands of “non-violent” federal convicts.
Since almost every federal prisoner pleads guilty to a lesser charge, we have no idea what crimes these guys actually committed, or what crimes they previously committed without being caught.
Also, Trump releases thousands of illegal immigrants EVERY DAY on their own recognizance.
Unless their prints, DNA, or photo show up in an international or USA criminal database, they just walk out the door and move into an American neighborhood.
There are 3 state and circuit attorneys right now, all militant, racist, black women, supported by George Soros funds, in major cities in the country. (there may be more but these 3 I've followed) Kim Gardner/Circuit attorney-St. Louis, Kim Foxx/State Attorney-Cook Cty IL, and Marilyn Mosby/State Attorney-Baltimore, Maryland. Each of these cities exploded in murder.
Kim Gardner has publicly denounced 22 St. Louis police officers and has stated that she WILL NOT accept any recommendations for warrants from these 22 men because of...well it's not been clearly stated other than some bogus racist claim. Add to that, the new mayor Lyda Krewson, a white, bleeding heart, do anything for votes, corrupt woman. Immediately upon taking office, her first order of business? Removing a confederate monument from Forest Park. Well, we all can see how that is working out for St. Louis.
The author of this piece is right on. Why would any policeman/woman put their lives on the line to only get their lives ruined for doing so. So yes...murder exploded and it is because of the likes of these women, obama, Holder et al dog whistling to the thugs that 'hey, it's ok' we got your back no matter what you do.
But as the saying goes: 'There's a new sheriff in town' I hope that in these cities, the rate drops as well.

DC homicide rate 18/19 is HALF of 15/16 rate.
There are many factors.
1. Jobs
2. Optimism about the future
3....
Many are secondary to Trump.
Now look as suicide figures, which do not have the same pattern. Why?
How many murderers, How many suicides have common factors?
Accepting or rejecting of reality? Of Family? of the hand dealt you?
Optimism? Pessimism?
Personal Responsibility?
Avoiding Responsibility?
Jobs is number 1 like you say. Less people have less time to get into trouble. Trump effect.
