An armed citizen and his companions came to the aid of a female police officer who had just been shot with her own gun. She was escorting an inmate to a mental health evaluation when he made a struggle for the firearm.

“The witness said one of those good Samaritans was able to control the situation because he carried his own gun. He never fired it, but he cornered the inmate who was trying to make the wounded officer drive with a stomach wound. Then, the men were able to hold that inmate to the ground by pointing a gun to his head. . . .”
Good.
They best ‘clam up’ and let their lawyer speak for them from here until the trial.
One can almost imagine a ‘false imprisonment’ suit coming out of this.
The perp should shut up and be glad the guy didn’t shoot him dead.
What kind of vehicle was he being transported in? A caged one? Was he restrained with cuffs BEHIND his back? I think the MDOC might have some questions to answer.
You know, I always chuckle at those great old James Garner shows, “Rockford Files” and “Maverick”, where the good guy has a gun on him, distracts the gunman and takes over. Then I read an article like this where it happens in real life. Only this time it’s the bad guy who gets the gun.
I believe I would have shot that inmate.....
Yes. It appears that the vehicle wasn’t properly equipped. Spit screen and cuff-downs are necessities.
Ping
Kidnapping, isn’t it? Violation of his civil rights, perhaps?
Dead men can’t sue. Family can BUT between the deputy and the shooter he should have been okay.
(AND he was going for a psych exam)
PROVIDING all his ‘friends’ are friends.
Never forget if you want 3 people to keep a secret, best to kill at least the other two...
Democrats are not going to like this
The inmate should have been wearing handcuffs and leg irons. If not, why not? Especially with a female officer escorting him. WTF
I know I would have shot a quick 3-rounds into that inmate.....
You mean the female cop was not able to control the male prisoner? Who would have ever thought it!
YUP; deader than last weeks tacos.
He only missed getting shot by a few minutes. I was headed home and they had the road blocked because of the shooting.
Just for information, they covered up the part about the citizen already having the perp captured before police arrived for about a week. I knew people that were there and knew what happened, and the Facebook crowd was calling them liars. It’s about 10 miles from my house and I know the people involved.
I’m not sure how a prisoner of the state who was prevented from escaping (and kidnapping the officer he wounded) could file such a suit, but then I am not a lawyer.
