It used to be said we could end ALL wars if the ‘so called leaders’ who willingly dispatched OTHERS to do their fight for them would just meet head to head and ‘fight’ it out, a lot of this crap would never have happened.
However, it is one way to keep the population trimmed down.

Historically, even up to the 1200s many leaders did in fact lead their troops and sometimes died with them. Wars were even bloodier as a percentage of combatants then.

My Uncle was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. He later fought in the Philippines. He said the same thing, but with a lot more colorful use of words about those who wished to become POW’s. One phrase that stuck with me, “We mowed the Bastards down.”
I hate to say this, but if you don’t have wars it could be that you wind up with an excess of military aged males and that leads inevitably to a lot of political instability. Ever hear of the job title “chicken sexer”? They check all the baby chicks for their sex and then break all the males necks and throw’em in a bucket.
