Reagan sometimes took military action, but it was very quick, targeted, and except for Granada, used almost no troops. We could wipe out Iran easily, they could hit back though, but if Iran steps it up, and attacks our troops or assets(shutting down the straights of Hormuz, then it's go time.

It would be simple and easy for Iran to take out a tanker or 2 in the very narrow straight of Hormuz. Insurance for tankers, then rockets upward along with the price of oil sending the world (including the US) into economic depression. Iran is perfectly aware of this, thus why they are so cocky.
