I believe we have seen the last of “landslide victories” in general elections. The country is too divided and too many people vote according to what is good for them and not what is good for the country.
Too many people now think of ourselves as a democracy. That's why you have these idiotic movements such as to eliminate the electoral college and go to a popular national vote - which surely has our founders spinning in their graves.
Not many people realize that up until the early 20th century, we did not directly elect our senators either. This used to be a function of the state legislatures.
Considering the overall product of directly elected senators since, this was not necessarily a good move.
