It all comes down to detection and response. A hyper-sonic missile vs a wall of lead still ends up destroying the missile.

I’d be a lot more confident if we hadn’t recently had two fatal incidents where U.S. warships failed to detect freighters that are about a city block long and move at about 24 knots.
