The media are certainly not doing that. Mayor Pete and Chasten are part of their propaganda strategy. To get a winning coalition, the leftist Dems need white women--so they they have fastened on two issues they expect women to find appealing: abortion and homosexuality.

Of course, actual homosexuality is generally repulsive to women as well as men. But "hairdresser" homosexuality is not. It's wholesome and comforting. So Pete and Chasten are up on stage 24/7/365 showing off their wholesomeness (as in this zany editorial) and reminding female voters that the GOP is mean, mean, mean. If you love your hairdresser, lady, vote DEMOCRAT!
