The college is in serious financial difficulty & will probably have to close if the jury awards are held up .... even if reduced somewhat, Oberlin is in trouble. Based on the cultural rot on display, I’d say that was a good thing!

Here’s more bad news for Oberlin:

EXCLUSIVE: Oberlin College insurer [Lexington] likely to reject coverage for Gibson Bakery $11 million verdict and also for the potential additional $22 million in punitive damages, if those are awarded in a separate hearing.

The bottom line:
“Accordingly, based on Lexington’s court filing, it is likely that Oberlin College, should its post-trial motions and appeals fail, will have to pay out of pocket and then sue Lexington.”

I highly doubt the "serious financial trouble" proclamation. Oberlin has an endowment of $800 million to $1B, depending on how it is counted and the stock market at any moment.

Even if they end up paying the full $44 million, that is about 4.5% of their endowment. So what happens is their annual budget from endowment shrinks by 4.5%. Inconvenient, yes. But it is nowhere near a deathblow.

Cut back on scholarships for thugs, which was the real reason for this problem, and everything is OK. Now the reality is that they will appeal until the family has passed on and then settle for less. And, they will continue to bring as many thugs as possible onto their campus.
