What I noticed was the NYT stating the preposterous notion that the authority that Trump intentionally pushed down to military commanders was proof that those commanders didn't trust him.I couldn't even get that far into the article it was so clearly pure nonsense. "Preposterous" is being generous. What it actually proves is that Trump trusts his subordinates (still at the 4-star and higher levels) to make important decisions without involving him every time.

What I meant by "Preposterous":
NYT:Pentagon and intelligence officials describe to the Times "broad hesitation" to tell Trump about the details of the operations against Russia. They tell the Times there was concern over how Trump would react, and the possibility that Trump might reverse the operations or discuss it with foreign officials.
What it actually proves is that Trump trusts his subordinates (still at the 4-star and higher levels) to make important decisions without involving him every time.
Yes! Does it make sense that commanders don't trust Trump because he trusts them to make the right call?
