There's another thread where a participant explained why that was the perfect spot to place the mine.........Below the waterline would have allowed the influx of the water to extinguish any fire it caused.
Yeah fuel tanks and all, not sure if that makes sense. never sailed a tanker.
Damage was minimal, but someone is pushing the incident.
