Come now, our friends the Saudis would never do such a thing. They don’t want oil prices to rise, they told us so. And never mind about all that beheading they do. It’s a cultural thing, and cultural diversity is wonderful

I doubt it is Saudi, they gain by the embargo on Iranian oil. Russia loses if US takes out Iran's ports and refineries as they need Iranian money from weapons sales. One unmentioned state actor gains, Israel. Lot of saber rattling between Iran and Israel lately. Israel does not want to go it alone against Iran. But these ships were not US flagged tankers. Hard to justify going to war over a Norwegian and Japanese tanker. I would not ignore the possibility that parties inside Iran wanted to torpedo (pun intended) Abe’s talks with Iran. No coincidence both tankers linked to Japan.
