Recreational marijuana in Colorado: What the numbers say about health, safety and tax dollars
Chicago Tribune ^ | May 30, 2019 | Robert McCoppin

A bill to legalize recreational marijauna in Illinois needs only the signature of Gov. J.B. Pritzker to become law. Colorado has had legal recreational marijuana since 2014. The Colorado Division of Criminal Justice last year came out with an analysis of the effects of the state's legalization of retail sales of marijuana since it went into effect in 2014. It found teen use had not increased, but hospital visits and fatal accidents associated with marijuana use increased. The authors cautioned that many factors can influence the statistics in the report, including people's willingness to admit marijuana use now that it's legalized in the state. Here is a rundown of some of the major findings.

-- three states with legalized marijuana -- were among the top four states with an increase of chronically homeless people between 2017 and 2018.

Noooo!! Say it isn't sooo!!! A state that legalizes an addictive drug becomes a haven for addicts??? How can that beeeee????!!

Seriously, the pimps who pander to these morons try to sell it as a virtue, and do it with a straight face.

I don’t recommend taking psychedelics while pregnant

Or anytime for that matter

Even though I took plenty it’s too risky for most

Besides what mom wants a fish baby

A state that legalizes an addictive drug becomes a haven for addicts???

Of course it does - by attracting them from other states rather than increasing their nationwide number - nor has anyone ever claimed it wouldn't. Since 11 states, including populous CA, have already legalized, other states needn't fear what befell first-in-the-nation CO.

Imho, if you keep the population fat, dumb and happy with “bread and circuses, they won’t know when their freedom is gone.

Then they become slaves to the state.

The article reports that marijuana use went up less then 2% after legalization. If the goal was enslaving the people, it's failed.

Hi.

I appreciate your assessment. Still, we are lacking data over time.

Can professional organizations continue to ban pot use among member if the government tacitly endorses it through legalization?

You pose a very good question.
If I'm managing a large construction project in a state or country where recreational marijuana use is legal, can I still do a drug and alcohol test on an employee who is involved in an accident?
Can I fire a heavy equipment operator if he is involved in a metal-on-metal incident and he tests positive for weed?

I had enough problems with employee drug use on my last project in Canada before marijuana was legalized.

Yours is a voice of reason...

I live in MO and have started looking for a place to buy in Illinois since rec pot will become law on Jan 1.

My sister currently uses prescription opioids for pain and I would like to get her off of that stuff.

Got some legal edibles in Colorado and it does help her...

Trading opioid use in for THC use is a no-brainer IMO.

THC and Ibuprofen are a great team :-)

Awww, the consequences of freedom all wrapped up in some lovely FUD, cherry-picked stats.

Freedom weeds out irresponsible people. It always has & it always will.

Still thriving here as a legal medical marijuana patient in the state of Florida!

Certainly you’ve never met with me, a daily cannabis user who will never get behind the wheel of a car while under the influence of any medications.

Still thriving as a daily user since 2015!
