NESN (New England Sports Network, TV home of the Red Sox) just reported that Ortiz was shot in the back: Bullet entered the back and exited the abdomen. He had emergency surgery in the DR and is now in stable condition (as of midnight ET).

Wow, what the hell is going on in the Dominican Republic lately??

Prayers for Big Papi's full recovery...

OMG. Very relieved to hear Ortiz is stable post surgery. The DR has always been a pit, albeit other half of Hispaniola has been a worse pit. Recent stories out of the DR seem to indicate it is destabilizing.

Recall MLB invested tremendous resources into the DR years ago when Venezuela was deemed a dangerous location for winter baseball, etc. Scary.
