US President Donald Trump said on Thursday he is probably planning to slap tariffs on the remaining US$300 billion of untaxed Chinese imports some time after he meets with Chinese leader Xi Jinping at the G20 in late June.
The decision to put punitive duties on Chinese goods not currently subject to 25 per cent taxes would be made over the next two weeks, probably right after the G20, Trump told reporters at a D-Day ceremony in Europe.

He has a once in a lifetime shot at breaking Chinese momentum and restoring America’s rightful place. Yes I know that kind of talk would get me the electric chair in liberal circles...
In the end, he will have to find a way to allow Xi to save face, but the important thing now is to get to that point, and to not relax the pressure before we do.
He’s given US importers 3 years to take action to reduce Chinese influence on their aupply chains.
Let it come.
That said...
Dear President Trump...
...we AMERICANS support you, and we do recognize that you are supporting us!
And that said, please consider starting the tariffs a bit higher than mexico, I'm thinking 10 to 20 percent. (Full disclosure, I'm not an economist.)
Thank-you for defending our borders! You da Prez!
.
Just limit buying Chinese goods. The media predicts disaster for the US consumer and farmers but that is not true. The media are globalists just like the Progressives pimping against Trump.
Go DJT !
Suit yourself, but scmp is a very good news source, far more objective than US papers.

Absolutely! American businesses will need to be flexible and THEY CERTAINLY CAN BE FLEXIBLE ... if they want to and are smart.
I agree it is a very good paper, I used to subscribe to it, in fact.
Realize however, they are pro-China, in any article, involving China in any sort of competition with, for example America.
Their loyalty is to China.
Otherwise, they are very good.
When the price of Chinese goods goes up - and American goods are competitive people will choose to NOT buy Chinese goods.
No one makes choices based on guilt for very long... best to just switch incentives and let the ‘better deal’ be NOT buying Chinese...
China was always going to lose this trade war. They’ve shot their bolt already. They have nothing left to hit. Meanwhile, President Trump is about to slap a nice hefty tariff on $300 billion more of their goods.
Easier said than done. Nearly every resistor, capacitor, and inductor — commodity parts — on every circuit board in every phone and device is made in China. Electronics engineer here, and I deal with supply chain issues every day.
Can’t argue with that.
But 3 years is a significant amount of time to protect one’s investmants and sources.
I pity anyone who’s made a significant imvestment in Chinese indistry in the last 5 to 10 years, but they should have known one day the bottom falls out of the bucket.
It was too good to last.
