A federal judge denied the request by Michael Flynn’s lawyers to withdraw from his case.
Attorneys for President Trump’s former national security adviser said in a court filing Thursday that Flynn was “terminating” them as their counsel.
“General Flynn has notified the undersigned that he is terminating Covington & Burling as his counsel and has already retained new counsel for this matter,” Robert Kelner and Stephen Anthony wrote.
Judge Emmet Sullivan denied the motion, saying it did not comply with local court rules and the attorneys’ “failure to indicate the manner in which the motion was served upon Mr. Flynn.”
It was not clear whom Flynn had hired to replace Kelner and Anthony, and his sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.
He pleaded guilty in December 2017 for lying to the FBI about his conversations with then-Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak.

It never ceases to amaze me how ignorant the media are about legal matters. The headline is FALSE. This is quite common: client told his attorneys he want to fire them. They want to get out quickly to avoid any liability for things that go wrong now that the attorney client relationship has collapsed because attorneys cannot just quit. They have to be relaxed by the
Client by the filing of a Substituion of Attorneys or they need permission of the court via Motion to Withdraw. All this article says is that the form and/or service of the motion was not in order.
So let’s all just calm down.
Now why would this judge force Flynn to continue to use these lawyers?

The idea that one could not fire their lawyers was unbelievable to me. I have learned that when I read something is "unbelievable", it usually is.

So, Flynn can likely get rid of these useless attorneys, but he has to follow court procedure first.

The lawyer change (motion for leave) was denied by Judge Sullivan due to a technicality in the filing (no accompanying order, and failure to outline method of notification to Flynn). They are free to refile (probably will).

Judges prefer that the defendant isrepresented by an attorney he can get along with, but will generally allow a short delay to get replacement counsel at least one time.
It’s time for trump to pardon him. This is getting insane.

To clarify conservatives were praising him until he accused Flynn of “treason” and had to apologize, if I recall correctly.
Judges inhabit a different planet.
In his mind; Flynn lines all of those lousy lawyers up in a row, raises his right hand, and slaps them all across the chops at once, yelling “FOOLS!!”
They did not comply with the requirement to properly serve Flynn with the motion. That seems like a technicality, but it’s important to make sure Flynn agrees with this where he is in custody and is not appearing in the courtroom.
