In the immortal words of MadMax to the Empower West Louisville extortionists, ‘F.U.’
You want money, get a real job.
That tainted money died with the overthrowing of the Southern aristocracy; the whole economic system of the South was destroyed. Trying to label hardworking people today as beneficiaries of slavery is absurd - and dangerous.
I understand what they are arguing, but it is so easily debunked - especially considering how many whites arrived AFTER slavery.
When FReepers post pics of those dirty coalminers in the cars, they are posting pictures taken long after the civil War. Try telling those men (or their descendants) how slavery benefited them.
Michael Obama ranted about living in a house built by slaves (the White House); here in the North we have very few such structures. The industrialization here was produced by whites (and helped win the Civil War); most blacks arrived here a century later in “The Great Migration”.
My Mom died when I was young so I didn't hear too many of her stories...from her,at least...but my Dad and his brothers and sisters used to call it "two toilet Irish".
No,they were *not* "two toilet Irish".
Commentary: A pension is a promise. This is no time to break trust.
If this bunch is tax-exempt, someone needs to take a dang good look at what they are doing with it.
Besides committing extortion.
I’m still not ;)
Wow. I didn’t realize that the official shakedowns had begun already. Scary stuff,
Don’t know if it’s true, but have read that the biggest slave owner was black.
It’s hard to find exact numbers but it’s clear, there were black slave owners who owned many slaves and thousands of acres. There were more than 3,000 black slave owners in New Orleans alone.
One of the largest slave owners was William Ellison. Although it was illegal to sell a son or daughter of a slave Ellison made much of his money as a slave breeder. When he died he bequeathed $500 to one of his slave daughters.
Here is a link to an article about black slave owners. It has a lot of interesting information. For example, there were requirements that had to be met if an owner wanted to free a slave. The owner had to document that the slave was able to support himself. (BTW, that was not just in the south. Massachusetts also had those requirements. MA owners had to post a bond if they wanted to free a slave.)
