Chew on this thought experiment for a while chief - keep in mind the level of batshit insanity we are witnessing right now in our society is with the lights on, and everyone has a full belly, water flows from the tap, hospitals are functioning, garbage gets picked up, "free" money cards get filled every month etc. From any objective standpoint, an historical perspective, the average person in America has never had it so good. It's not debateable. The Modern Idiot has no clue on any of this stuff, they can barely change a tire, though they imagine that all these things taken for granted are basically automatic or on auto pilot. Civilization is the default in their mind, and no comprehension that changing a single variable can have huge effects on the entire system. They see a row of nice Condos, and are persuaded it's simply just a failure of our imagination that everybody can't live the life of Luxury. If the basic infrastructure were to break down for any reason, whether natural diasaster or man-made, these nutbars are not suddenly going to become reasonable or stable people. In my more uncharitable moments it's easy to wish for hardship in some ways, to get people's mind right. The 1930s depression was horrible, and the World War 2.0 that followed, but it sure made for tough, competent people who didn't put up with any nonsense.
