A 40-year-old woman from Honduras died in the custody of the U.S. government, the second such death in a 36-hour period, officials said.
The woman was apprehended by Border Patrol agents early Monday after illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP). She collapsed after arriving at the Eagle Pass South Station in Texas, and staff their began treating her. She was then taken to a hospital where she died.
CBP is not identifying the woman until her family is notified.
On behalf of the men and women of CBP, we extend our deepest condolences to those who are just learning of the death of their loved one," said Acting CBP Commissioner John P. Sanders. "This tragedy marks the second time in less than 36 hours that a person has died immediately following their perilous migration from their home in Central America, through Mexico and across our Southwest border.
CBP said Sunday in a statement that a 33-year-old man from El Salvador suffered a seizure while in U.S. custody and then passed away. CBP also did not release his identity.
CNN reported that a third migrant died while in U.S. custody in a three-day period. Jonathan Alberto "aka Johana" Medina Leon, 25, died at the Del Sol Medical Center in El Paso, Texas on Saturday, the news network reported, citing Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The agency told CNN that Medina Leon, a transgender woman,"requested to be tested for HIV and tested positive" on May 28. She was then reportedly transferred to the hospital where she died.
The Hill has reached out to ICE for comment.
In May, CBP separately confirmed the death of a 16-year-old boy who had been in U.S. custody.
People should stop crossing the border.
I estimate well over 2 million are crossing this year. A million to be in custody. 3 deaths?
We are not responsible for the well-being of every person on this planet. Don’t undertake a dangerous and illegal journey if you want complete safety.
Many show up at the border sick, exhausted, dehydrated and hungry. Yes some will expire in custody.
They have disease before they made the trip.
then why did they cross? Even East Germans knew the risk of crossing the Wall. Cross or die. In this case...die.
If death at the border hurts Trump, you’ll be seeing them drop like flies. There will be thousands, if not tens of thousands of suicide immigrants swarming up from Mexico.
Lets get these numbers up!
Several young, healthy people have died recently after contracting the flu. It’s very fast; one to two days. Two Americans in Fiji and two tourists in the Dominican Republic. Many people exposed to the couple in Fiji have come down with the same symptoms and have been hospitalized.
Not our problem.
Illegals should get a clue that Its too hot and humid to be on a 2000 mile hike to Texas, and it will only get worse for the next four months.
I bet it will be one of the 150+ Haitians or Africans that crossed over illegally.
If liberals disagree with enforcing the border then they all need to take in at least one each, be they from Haiti, Africa, India, Honduras, etc, into their homes without any prior, full vetting of said persons before letting them into the U.S.
Its summer. The temps are rising but they are nowhere near what they will be in July. People who are not used to desert heat can die fast. You think you are fine because you are not sweating, but you are.....the dry heat just makes it evaporate instantly and dehydration sets in.
Here’s a search (selectable) for deaths on the Arizona border:

If we actually DEFEND the border, more invaders will die and the rest might start to get the message.
So many illegals. So few deaths.
Maybe they should stop coming here illegally, but all those Govt freebies they are promised for voting Democrat is too hard to resist
Clearly crossing the border is a danger to ones’ health.
People should stop crossing the border.
EXACTLYOSO!!!!
It’s a start.
