All your interests are belong to us…. There was previous discussion of how Beijing would respond if/when their economic interests were challenged. In essence, the prediction was that China would drop the panda mask and revert back to their oppressive totalitarian tendencies.
It is an interesting dynamic because the more the communist state moves to punish and control western business interests, the less likely any western investment flows into China. It’s a simple question: Why would anyone want to engage a business relationship inside a totalitarian system that could move at any moment to control your business?
(South China Post) China will publish a list of “unreliable” foreign entities deemed to have damaged the interests of Chinese firms – a move set to ratchet up tensions in its escalating conflict with Washington, after the US government blacklisted Chinese telecoms giant Huawei.
The Ministry of Commerce said on Friday that it would blacklist foreign businesses or individuals that violated market rules and contractual obligations, or took “discriminatory measures” to hurt Chinese business rights and interests, as well as national security and interests.
Specific measures for those on the list would be revealed “in the near future”, said ministry spokesman Gao Feng.
Gao said the “unreliable” blacklist would be based on China’s foreign trade, anti-monopoly and national security laws, and it would target entities that had blocked Chinese businesses out of non-commercial concerns. (read more)

If that were all they did, it wouldn’t be so bad, but anyone leaving China also has to pass through Passport Control [including Americans], and China simply doesn’t people through, if they have an unresolved dispute there.
So, if any of you guys, or your kids, gets tempted with an assignment in China, BEWARE...if things go south, it may not end well.
Maybe the desire to profit from a market with over one billion consumers overrides fears of totalitarianism. Profits are the ultimate fulfillment of the pursuit of happiness in the globalist world.
Because US firms slobber over the prospect of gaining just a fraction of the 1.3 billion Chinese as customers for their products. All firms emphasize growth, growth, growth and more growth, and China offers the greatest potential for growth of most any place.
That's not mentioned often enough, but US and other foreign firms relocated many factories to China for the cheap labor and lax regulation, and also for the potential of gaining millions of new customers in China. They've already been willing to put up with a lot over several decades to gain those advantages.

Regardless of how “trade war” plays out - one thing is for sure, Trump has indeed ripped the benign mask of “reform” and “economic opening” off China, to reveal to the world that China is still a centrally-planned and controlled economy, the ultimate purpose of which is to keep the Communist Party in power.

What amazes me is that people in the West and America in particular are so used to politicians that seem to be either Quislings (the RNC, sadly) are nursing some kind of Cultural Suicide Fetish (the DNC, especially now that there are no more nor will there ever be again any Zell Millers) that they cannot comprehend a nation trying to keep to any sort of more or less coherent set of principals to seek its own enrichment unless they are white and therefore bad and never to be done again.
The Chinese, not white and therefore victims, having just such ambitions seems to be entirely off of the radar of the Left for just such reasons.
Maybe the Left thinks it’s just their turn ... as if there are somehow turns because like that if there were “turns” then why are Europeans and Christians bad for having had a turn!?! Or maybe it’s because they’re still really Chinese Communist at heart and so okay? Or maybe they’re not us and that alone is enough for the Left?
