I think he means “gay” in the traditional sense (happy). After he married his wife her was no longer “gay” (happy) - hence, the divorce.

Does anyone use the word gay in the traditional sense anymore?
It seems to me that the word gay means only homosexual nowadays. It’s not even a word with a double meaning depending on context, because people have abandoned using the word in the traditional sense.
Remember the lyrics to The Flintstones theme song, we’ll have a gay old time??? No way if they were writing that show today would they use such lyrics.

No divorce in the Philippines. His wife had the marriage annulled (Duterte did not contest) after 27 years in marriage and three children. And about as gay as, say, Wilt Chamberlain.
