I think the author intended to say she has been “Willie successful.”
Good one! Willie Brown thrust her into the spotlight, after she handled Willie well. She hasn't accomplished anything else successfully, other than letting killers off the hook. She was the anti-DA working for the defense of killers, and is anti-deathpenalty.
