Every day I talk to people who don't understand the issues involved in our trade dispute with China. There are not Trump-haters, just people who have never heard through the MSM why the dispute is happening - and think it is just because Trump has a big ego and wants to beat up China.

When I explain why we are raising tariffs - to match what China has been putting on our exports for decades - and when I explain how China's abuse of their "Third World Privilege" of heavily subsidized postal rates for drop-shipping to the US has crushed many American small businesses, a light bulb goes on and they suddenly get it.

One problem is - where "conservative" media exists - it too often parrots the globalist Chamber of Commerce rhetoric on trade, which is not substantially different from Democrat rhetoric. It is very hard for reasonable Americans without access to an alternative source like FR to understand what is really going on.

I'm a big fan of the idea of Trump doing Fireside Chats on TV every Friday night, to bypass the MSM. The Democrat response every time would become increasingly hysterical and do nothing but good for Trump's re-election campaign.

Fireside chats are a great idea but Trump knows this stuff like the back of his hand - maybe too well to explain easily.

It would be better if someone like Thomas Sowell assisted... Trump could 'invite' someone like Sowell to the chat and work as a team. Trump's a man of action and fireside chats require a different approach... Trump says 'We gotta take this hill to win' and the other person says, 'here's why we gotta take this hill and why this plan will work'...
