Who was it named after? His grandfather? Why the stink? Seems like some clarification would be in order? Or perhaps some low level saboteur thought it would provoke some negative press, which it has. Pretty easy to find out who it was, if one wanted to.

Originally the ship was named after Sen. McCain’s grandfather and father, who were both heroic naval officers. After M 3 died, the Navy stained their memory by adding the failed McCain to the two heroes as the ship’s namesakes. It’s shameful.

There’s a USS Harvey Milk, so there are no standards.
