Orange County Commissioner Mark Marcoplos told the INDY Thursday that hell ask his colleagues to raises taxes to fund projects aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change.
The property tax hike hes proposing for the countys 201920 budgetwhich commissioners will vote on June 18isnt likely to cause sticker shock: Its only a quarter-cent increase for every $100 in assessed value, or about $5 a year for a $200,000 property. (Orange Countys current millage rate, 85 cents per $100 of value, is higher than those of Durham and Wake Counties78 cents and 65 cents, respectivelythough that comparison does not include taxes imposed by municipalities.)

The reason we need it is because were facing a planetary crisis and everyoneevery individual, every community, every governmentneeds to step up at this time and make a real contribution to the situation, he says. Weve got ten or twelve years to make a significant change in our impact on the climate.

LOL good one loather...
What is the money spent on?
Parties and nice office furniture.
Take out a 20 year loan. You’ll be dead before you have to pay it off so you come out ahead, shit for brains.
It's WAY worse than that. The bartender has us all doomed by 2030 unless we give her all of our loot. (You may have carried the one too many times.)
And just what county projects will be countering 'climate change?' When will those projects be deemed successful or a failure?
In short, this money will go to pet projects that fill the coffers of big campaign donors. The actual projects will be hidden in budgetary spread sheets and will be subject to zero oversight, just another scam by the Democrat/Socialist Overlords. The working, property owning, serfs will be taking it in the shorts again.
Yeah, I was off by a bunch having been dazzled by the intellect of that Bartenderette. Now I'll use Common Core Math, and my new re-calculation is . . . January 2, 2031. Won't be a Super Bowl that year, will there?
