Steve Zelnak, the former CEO and chairman of the board at Raleigh-based Martin Marietta Materials, donated $5,000 to Sen. Thom Tillis in February. The donations weren’t shocking: He’d given to Tillis in 2014 and 2018.

On Wednesday night, however, Zelnak and his wife Judy will serve as chairmen for the first fundraiser for Tillis’ 2020 Republican challenger — Garland Tucker. It costs $5,600 per couple to be listed as a chairman for the event at the Carolina Country Club in Raleigh, according to an invitation obtained by McClatchy.

Would I be correct in assuming that the dude is a RINO?

Yes.

He is an embarrassment to this state.

Unfortunately both NC senators are phony Republicans. I moved here from CA four years ago to get away from that Dem run state, but what I found here is two RINO senators and lots of local Dem politicians. Sucks.

"Would I be correct in assuming that the dude is a RINO?"

He made a big show of opposing President Trump's declaration of an emergency on the border back in March, writing an op-ed for the Washington Post about he why.

His approval among the Republican base in NC has been down in flames since.

I , and others, sent Tillis several scathing emails concerning his ‘wall’ stance and he changed his vote to backing the President. At least he listened to his constituents.
Plus he had the decency to answer (or an aide) me.
Recently I sent our other senator ,Burr , an email and nothing back from him.
Of course he’s retiring doesn’t need my vote. Wouldn’t et it.

That would be Garland Tucker, and although I don't know much about him, He has to be better than Tillis or Burr, just for the fact that he hasn't gone to Washington and turned into a lap-dog for the Left yet.

I would love to attend and give lavishly to Tillis’s opponent, but, alas, I live on a retirement pension check and social security and that kind of money from me is just not possible. How about an old folks table with occupants chosen by lottery??

We should be focused and working hard on Primarying out EVERY Republican who wasn't fervently for Limited Government, ending ObamaCare, etc.

The RNC needs to be given a complete flush and fill, as well.

I’m out of state so I’ll leave it up to the challenger to take him out. Then I’ll make my small contribution but only if there’s a change.

Much like Richard Lugar.

Isn’t he the one that Obama liked, or wanted him in his cabinet, or something? I can’t quite remember what it was. If Obama liked him, then he is suspect.
