BS. Tariffs are hardly unusual or "out of the box thinking" in the rest of the world. Only in America are tariffs consider this exotic crazy thing to be feared and loathed.
The tariff does not end any of the conditions you outline unless Mexico capitulates.
Rather than out of the box thinking, permanent general tariffs are under the rock thinking of E Trogs
Tell that to rest of the entire world which runs trade surpluses wit the USA.
So was there a meeting? Or will Trump just get around to him sometime? (Which would be hilarious.)
Captain Obvious wants to know...
Make the “Beaner Wienie Presidente” come the the WH and kiss the ring.
My darkside prediction:
A group of “migrants,” men, women, children, will be massacred south of the border by persons unknown and will be presented as the expedient Mexico will use to stop the flow of border-crossers. The Leftist Press will go apesh!t crazy and blame it on Trump.
BUY AMERICAN!!
Because a great deal more is at stake than just simply a tariff. Depending on what industry is targeted it has a ripple effect. Lets say the car industry. Parts manufactured in Mexico get shipped to the US. Once it hits the border it gets dropped at a warehouse to be inspected by customs. 5% on these parts are remitted to the piggy US Government who isnt quite big enough already.
US truck driver who the assembly company pays to ship to their assembly plant may be the target of unemployment due to the tariff. Thats just to break even. The part is assembled by a US worker. To make a profit either the part is now marked up 5% and passed to the dealer having to seek the car fully assembled or the US worker who assembled the part must now also be let go.
Assembled car arrives at dealer. Dealer can either let go of a salesperson to make up the difference on the 5% per car or mark his sales price up 5% and pass it onto us the consumer. Within each of these scenarios if an employee is released at each point along this path it then impacts the local economy. Grocery stores, real estate, eateries, department stores etc. now lets say this continues per the plan to increase to 10-15-20-25. Now youre talking an enormous cascading financial impact to the US economy and all so the big fat piggy Government can collect more money. Yes its a punishment but lets not fool ourselves here into thinking that punishment doesnt go two ways. It does and in a big way.
And thats just on a single part. Now multiply that by thousands of products shipped here every day. You get the picture. This is why investors are selling because they know the writing in the wall.
The TOTAL amount of imports is $1.5T/yr any sell off greater than that is stupid money leaving.
Your points are moot. The situation is dynamic and domestic suppliers will come on line. Sorry Free Traitors the world is changing under your feet and Patriots i.e. nationalists are on to your game. Why not kill yourselves now?
Really, please educate us on the vast plethora of steel manufacturing that can be quickly stood up to offset the trillions in losses. I wonder how long it would take for a steel manufacturing plant to be stood up in this country considering all the Government regulations and red tape that investors must step through. Local alone is a beast but Federal is a mammoth. What do you say? Three years? Five years? Is that about right? Its easy to bloviate from behind a keyboard while thousands are out of work because domestic manufacturing is so easy to stand up. Possible? Absolutely. Easy? Not by a long shot.
Is this what having a differing opinion has come to? Rather than debating facts result to name calling? How quaint. Call me what you wish free this or free that but as a wise man once said facts dont care about feelings.
But to answer your stupid inane question first you add shifts to existing plants. More employment and higher wages to follow - a great thing. Then you start building new facilities or adding to existing facilities to increase production. In the mean time to make up any shortage we keep importing tariff steel. It's not rocket science.
Macro economics is hard Mr. Marine but I think if you massage your head and breath deeply you will get it, one day.
What does that mean to transfer it to their sponsors?
Yes Marine and College graduate in Business with classes in economics micro and macro. I dont pretend to know everything and do agree with some of your points. Ive never been a fan of tariffs. If tariffs were used in the proper way wed eliminate Federal income taxes and impose 100% tariffs. But we know thats never going to happen. Instead, the Government we trust so much gets to pick the winners and losers of the free market place by imposing tariffs as a punishment.
Ever wonder why Mexico was successful in steering away manufacturing? It was because of HUNDREDS of bi-lateral trade agreements with other countries tariff free with little to no regulations. Id be happy as hell to think manufacturing was coming back en masse to our country. However, due to overbearing regulations, legal expenses and cost, assemblers will certainly find other suppliers and those manufacturers will be found in the next Mexico across the ocean.
Until the US cleans up its laws and regulations respecting business growth (Trump has done a great deal thus far but Congress is the lynchpin) then we can hope and wish that tariffs will bring back jobs.
It's time for Patriots not pussies. Tariffs are Patriot candy!!!!
Oh, you know, the ones POTUS was speaking of, who are supposed to be a citizen relative, so therefore some of the infiltrators are allowed in easier than others. Its all too insane.
Of course, personally, I consider the Marxist Democrats to be the biggest Infiltrator SPONSORS of them all. On Soros dime, no doubt.
