RUSH: Well, it turns out that Mueller actually mentioned the golf club dispute in a footnote in the Mueller report, and it is the golf club that I played. Its in Sterling, Virginia. Its down near Dulles, not far from Dulles/Reston area.
In a footnote in the Mueller report, pages 80 and 81: In October 2011, Mueller wrote a letter to the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia, resigning his familys membership, explaining, we live in the District and find that we are unable to make full use of the club, according to footnote 529 in the redacted report.
In the same letter, Mueller asked whether we would be entitled to a refund of a portion of our initial membership fee, which the report says was paid in 1994. The [Trump] club responded about two weeks later saying the resignation would be effective October 31, 2011, and that they would be placed on a waitlist to be refunded on a first resigned / first refunded basis
Now, Trump has claimed from the start that Mueller resigned his membership at Trumps golf club in Sterling in October 2011 due to a disagreement over fees. Trump said he believes Mueller still holds a grudge, and its 15 grand, apparently. Mueller wanted a $15,000 refund on his membership.
I cant tell you, folks, the number of people that join golf clubs. You pay to join these damn things, and supposedly if you resign or if youre a member long enough and you resign, you get some of your deposit, some of your initiation fee back. It never happens. I mean, it happens so rarely that people signing up for these deals ought to realize that theyre not gonna get the deposit back. Its just a come-on. But, anyway, its actually in the Mueller report.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: Im gonna remind you, this golf club business At first blush, first glance, Come on. It couldnt be over $15,000 refund that wasnt for a golf membership. Let me remind you of something and Im not saying that it is. Mueller puts it in the report, obviously, as an item of full disclosure. But do you remember what Watergate ended up really being all about? The identity of Deep Throat.
Deep Throat, who was Woodward and Bernstein. Deep Throat was the mysterious cloaked figure that met them in parking garages and fed them whatever they needed to hear that would indict President Nixon, that would accuse President Nixon, that would do all of kinds of horrible things to President Nixon. This guy Mark Felt. When he assumed room temperature, it was revealed that he was Deep Throat. You know who Mark Felt was? Mark Felt was a guy ticked off at Nixon for not hiring him to replace Hoover to head up the FBI!
Mark Felt wanted to be FBI director when J. Edgar Hoover left the directorship. Felt was so ticked off that he became Deep Throat and dictated everything that Woodward and Bernstein claimed they got through their shoe-leather reporting. Some of it was bogus. Some of it was totally made up. Some of it was just But Felt played these guys like Stradivariuses, and all he was, was a disgruntled, passed-over employee. So Im not saying that because thats true, Mueller has got his nose out of joint over a failed $15,000 refund attempt at a Trump golf club.
Im just telling you that petty things like this can, in fact (because they have been), be prime movers in matters of great intrigue in Washington. Imagine a guy upset that he didnt get the FBI gig from Nixon when Hoover quits, and decides to become Deep Throat and start throwing a bunch of bombs at Nixon via Woodward and Bernstein.
I play a lot of golf. Would not ever join a country club. Al Czervik called it right.
I thought it was an interesting theory.
Washington lore and scuttlebutt is full of stories like this.
Did Mueller also disclose in a footnote, his keeping four innocent men in prison for years (one actually died in prison), while protecting his mass murderer informant Whitey Bulger?
The James Webb feud with Oliver North comes to mind!
Supposedly dates back to a Naval Academy boxing match, where North beat Webb. Webb never forgave him!
I know people like that and they happen to be fellow Appalachians like myself & Webb. Not uncommon where I grew up!
This was revealed in a FR Thread some time after he was appointed to the investigation.
I dont gots the time, but who wants to Troll Bob Mueller and start a GOFUNDME Campaign to refund Muellers membership fees?
Trump has claimed from the start that Mueller resigned his membership at Trumps golf club in Sterling in October 2011 due to a disagreement over fees. Trump said he believes Mueller still holds a grudge, and its 15 grand, apparently. Mueller wanted a $15,000 refund on his membership.
Thanks Kaslin.
tongue in cheek here, but Brigade Championships are a big thing at USNA. Or were, at least.
Webb wrote a novel, A Sense of Honor, where their fight figures prominently.
Proves personal animus. Not good for a special persecutor!
You mean a “Buy Bob a pacifier” fund? lol
The person that told me the story didn’t tell me that it was for the brigade championship!
Anyway I hope you’re being sarcastic, 10 years later, 20 years later, 30 years later... etc. Keep the grudge???
Bad sportsmanship .... and yes petty!
Cemeteries and golf courses. The two biggest waste of real estate.
Isn’t there usually a fee to join the club? You’re put on a waiting list, and you pay your fee.
If you resign, I guess you might get your money back if the memberships were limited.
I think we’ll learn more about all of this, and Mueller’s pettiness.
How about the fact that both Barr and Trump were out of town when he had the press conference.
Shouldn’t he have received authorization from Barr to do this?
According to the Maryland State Golf Association, Robert Mueller III and Ann Mueller have USGA handicap indexes at Congressional County Club in Bethesda. Mueller’s index is 14.3 and his wife’s (if, indeed, that’s who this Ann Mueller is) is a bit higher. Neither has a posted round since 2016 but their dues must be current since they are in the MSGA computer system. I would venture to suggest that the fees at Congressional are quite a bit higher than at Trump’s Sterling course.
My golf club fees were treated like stock. I was able to resign my membership and my “stock” was on the list for sale in chronological order. As a new person would join they would purchase the next available stock. It took me about a year for me to get back my membership fee.
Hey, this happened to me. Our Country Club was sold to a private buyer and I lost all of my 4,000 membership fee. It happens more than you might think.
He did. And Barr and Trump were aware he was going to do it.
My county club was sold to a private buyer who turned into a fitness/golf/swim center with daily fees, open to the public.
This happened during the massive overbuilding of golf courses. Fortunately, the proceeds of the sale went to the members and most recouped their investments. It goes with being a member.
J Edgar Mueller. LOL!
