We lost a seat we should have won because Roy Moore was the candidate. Now, I don’t criticize those who voted for him, or those who think he was treated unfairly. And I don’t criticize Roy Moore for running last time. But if anything, last election revealed the baggage that comes with a Roy Moore candidacy. Maybe that baggage is totally unfair - smears from the left. But it’s reality. I don’t blame Moore for running last time. But if he runs this time, I do blame him.
If he runs, he’s deliberately putting Alabama voters in a difficult position - vote for a guy whose values they share but may have a hard time getting elected, all because he wants to put his personal vindication above the interests of the state and the country. If he cared about the issues he cares about, and cared about the voters in his state, he would find someone who shares his values, and who is not likely to attract the controversy he does, and endorse him. Getting someone who holds his values and beliefs into the Senate should matter a lot more to him than personal vindication -that is if he is a true statesman who puts aside his ego.
