About one in five Canadian adolescents uses cannabis and its recent legalization across the country warrants investigation into the consequence of this use on the developing brain.
Cannabis use was linked to impairments in working memory and inhibitory control, which is required for self-control. Cannabis use was also linked to deficits in memory recall and perceptual reasoning. Alcohol use was not linked to impairments in these cognitive functions, suggesting cannabis could have more long-term effects than alcohol.
Adolescent exposure to THC induces changes in specific a region of the brain called the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and in a brain circuit, the mesolimbic pathway, that closely resemble the abnormalities observed in schizophrenia. Furthermore, adolescent THC exposure also caused affective and cognitive abnormalities including deficits in social interactions, memory processing and anxiety regulation.

Who knew that AOC was Canadian? Explains alot.
I hear the movie Refer Madness is playing again.
What a lot of nonsense that it causes any lasting problems. Millions of people out there are living proof that is bunk.
For adult use you’re right, for adolescent use you’re not.
Depends when they start using...
It’s okay to drink, kids!
Read the entire article - the only causality proved was in rats. As for humans: "Adolescent cannabis use is associated with behavioral changes related to reward and motivation in humans. [...] It is not known whether adolescent cannabis use causes either of these responses, or if cannabis use is rather a symptom of a pre-existing state that results in these behaviours."
Parents who use drugs have kids who use drugs!
One thing that I have always wondered about: if you have never smoked it before, it may take a couple or more times smoking it to have an affect and get the high. And forever after this acclimation, the user can feel the affect and the high. Even years later.
Non-medical conclusion: it changes your brain chemistry permanently.
It messes up adults too.
Makes liberals and leftists more than anything else.
Changes thinking process and sensibilities.
My experience: Every kid in high school as well as myself smoked the stuff. By the time I got into college it was obvious that good grades and pot were not compatible so the pot took a back seat.
What gets me is the fact that I could never solve the simplest calculation after the smallest consumption but there are a few people that I’ve worked with that were brilliant at work as programmers and engineers and smoked amounts that would have made completely useless. The stuff has different effects on people but by far the most common effect is effecting an amotivational condition on the user so they are prone to basically being lazy.
Thank You Noble Free.

Plenty of scientific evidence that mj use does indeed do permanent damage, the more damage the younger they start using. Anyone who claims others is lying or stupid or can’t think because they’re dopers.
...
But those beginner's mistakes don't necessarily account for everything. Some experts also think there's a “sensitization period” during which you won't feel high. That's because THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis, can cause your brain to increase its amount of cannabinoid receptors. You'll have to wait for your body to create enough receptors in order to feel high, which might take a couple of tries.

For all those dope heads
Not true
See post #13. Okay, so it does change the brain chemistry to favor THC. And it is permanent. The brain and brain chemistry are very complicated and not to be tinkered with.
Even more complicated when a child is maturing from infancy to adulthood.
Sadly, I think that most of us were exposed to pot during this critical development period.
Might explain all of the Democrat voters and how insane and irrational they are. :)
If youve been around a dope head youll know that there has been long term damage
The current users are getting much more TVH. It is causing problems
Then you misread the article, no causality was proven in rats.
Causality is incredibly difficult to prove in medical science. Is associated with is not “proven causality”.
But correlation isn’t nothing, important to note to raise the right questions for further and deeper study.
I had a student that was out for a month from “scromiting.” Apparently, she smoked weed with such high THC that she started vomiting uncontrollably and the only thing that cured it was a hot bath. It’s apparently becoming common among people that smoke honey oil and so on.
