He defended it as “plausible” because it appeared in the same vein as Trump’s earlier praise for Kim after he insulted former Vice President and current presidential candidate Joe Biden. The "fake but accurate" defense! Can conservative writers make things up and use that defense?

The tweet was on social media long enough for CNN contributor Ana Navarro and Democratic California Rep. Ted Lieu to quote tweet Bremmer, but they proceeded to delete their tweets after he admitted to making the original tweet up. The fact they retweeted something that inflammatory in the first place without any effort to verify if it was accurate first speaks volumes to the fact they were indifferent to it being true or not - only deleting it after the initial poster tweeted out admissions that it was false which left them exposed.
