Consider the problem. 34,000 gun owners who went to the trouble to get a gun legally in Illinois. If you’re willing to go to through the process that implies that A. you have a need to have a gun and B. your not giving it up just because the state legislature says so, or there’s a knock at the door to actually collect it. A significant percentage are going to say that the gun was lost or stolen. A very small percent may open fire. Either way it’s a fool’s errand for law enforcement to go round knocking on doors.

Just issue an "Armed and Dangerous" bench warrant and have the State Police pick 'em off one at a time on the highway. You gonna get into a shootout with the wife and kiddies in the car?
