Who's who in the European Union elections happening now.

I thought Freepers might want a guide to who's who in European elections, since there are many reasons the parties are unfamiliar:

The European Union's parties are comprised of coalitions of various national (local) parties. Since elections are representational there are few reasons for grand, binary parties, like the Democrats and the Republicans in America, to form. The coalitions which do exist typically have platforms which apply only to international issues, and have long wierd names reflecting their hybrid natures and European perspective on issues. So here's a list of coalitions, or coalitions of coalitions, ranked in the approximate order of the vote share they're likely to get. The number in paretheses represents just one, very typical polling firm's prediction of how many seats they are likely to get.

(200)
Various Right-wing Euroskeptic parties, including European Conservatives and Reformists, Europe of Nations and Freedom, Brexit, Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy. Most have become socially conservative, while many initially had leftish origins or positions such as Beppe Grillo's "Five-Star Alliance" in Italy, Geert Wilder's "Party for Freedom," or the Le Pens' "National Front." Donald Trump.

(177)
European People's Party -- Establishment conservatives. Globalist, Pro-life but weak. Big business. National parties often are called "Christian Democrats." "Conservatives" in Britain. Therese May. Bush Republicans.

(152)
Socialist and Democrats -- "Mainstream" socialists, including Britain's Labor Party. Formerly these parties ruled most of Europe at any given time, but many have collapsed. Think Nancy Pelosi, not Bernie Sanders.

(93)
Liberals and Democrats -- Often comprised of 3rd-party centrists, so "Liberal" can mean classically liberal, known as capitalist in America, OR socially liberal. Pro-European. Includes some pro-life/small-government/environmentalist parties from Eastern Europe as well as pro-choice/corporatist parties from the West, such as Britain's Liberal Party.

(55)
Green-Free Europe Alliance -- Communist and Green parties aligned with various independence and autonomy movements which may not be that left-wing. Supportive of minority privileges, including both immigrant and native ethnic groups. "Soft" Euroskeptic.

(48)
European United Left/Nordic Green Alliance -- The famous Red-Green alliance. Soviet-era communists and radical anti-humanist Green. Differs from the Green-Free Europe Alliance in that they still probably seek to conquer the Earth and impose Stalinism and that's hard to reconcile with the Scottish Nationalist movement, etc. Bernie Sanders and PETA.

(25) Various moderate/centrist parties

(2) Independent Leftist parties

Left-Right Politcal Alliances (376 needed for majority)
376: conservative, including Euroskeptic and corporatist.
256: socialist, including globalist and Euroskeptic.
188: moderate.

Pro/Anti Europe positions
255: Euro-skeptic
200: Varies by party and nation
327: Euro-nationalist

Here’s how confusing it can get to characterize:

The Scottish National Party, which is nationalist and socialist, but they insist NOT National-Socialist, opposes leaving the European Union, because in the European Union they aren’t the overwhelming minority they are in the United Kingdom. They see the EU as being more likely to support their nationalism, so they oppose the British nationalism. But they like minimizing the role of the EU.

Various other European separatists typically vote for nationalist or autonomous movements, but their autonomous parties ARE anti-European union, because they see the EU as the very form of centralism they oppose. But because both they and the Leftists are so invested in victimhood, they align with the Leftists who would flood their countries with Muslim invaders. So they join up with the Green-Leftists who oppose the corporatism of the European Union as opposed to the Green-Leftists who see the European Union as the way of conquering all of Europe under a global communist movement.

The major German parties are running under their own banners. And they all seem to be pro EU.

The Christian Democrats/Christian Social Union are supporting the EPP. The Social Democratic Party is supporting Socialists and Democrats. The Alternative for Democracy is supporting Europe for People and Nations
