Somewhere there is an alternate universe in which Sessions told Trump he would not be able to protect Trump from the bogus Russia collusion story. In this universe, Sessions remained in office as a Senator, Doug Jones remained an obscure state lawyer, and we had a real Attorney General for the first two years of Trump’s term.
In that universe, the Steele dossier was shot down relatively quickly by a press release “We’ve checked our passport records and have confirmed that Michael Cohen never went to Prague” along with all the other bogus parts of the press release.
In that universe, this caused the Steele dossier to be treated similar to Bush’s national guard papers — an acknowledged fake that’s mostly ignored.
Would that universe have had a wall built? Problably not since there was bipartisan opposition. But it would have been an election issue for 2018, and it seems likely the Republicans would have kept the House, giving Trump much better positioning in 2019 than he does in our Universe.
How depressing.
In that alternate universe, Washington is inhabited by honest men and women and the free press by honest journalists.
