That was an unconscious clarification of what she meant to have it (the phrase) used for.
Had she not said that specific word, it is extremely likely she would have ended the conversation with the, “because that was not how it was conveyed to him.”
Like someone subconsciously adding something to a story to make it just a bit more believable.
