Guess I am a very lucky GM owner.
Bought only ONE new car in my entire life-—all others were used.
Bought 1965 Pontiac Catalina station wagon in Feb of 12965 for $3434 out the door-—tax, license and extras. Put over 444,000 miles on that car in 32 years & sold it to a guy in Sweden who restored the exterior. The running gear worked just fine. Did an engine rebuild at 251,000 miles.
I bought a used 1979 Buick station wagon in August of 1981 for $3500. It now has over 215,000 miles on it and had engine gone thru & freshened up in 1998 at 155,000 miles.
Parts are not expensive-—I get most of my parts at Summit Racing.
I bought a used 1976 1 ton dually Chevy truck with a 4 speed Granny low transmission in April of 1986 for $4000 with 90,000 miles on it. It now has over 348,000 miles on it. Current engine—built by same guy as Buick—has less than 8000 miles on it because I don’t tow horses everywhere any more.
I also owned a 1957 Pontiac in 1957. Ex-husband sold it out from under me in 1959. I still hate him for that.
A 1959 Pontiac in early 1960. Same Ex-husband crashed that new car into a large stone church while drunk & totalled the car. Hate him even more for that.
A 1933 Chevy pick up truck with 1952 straight 6 in it in 1960. Don’t remember cost. Painted over the rust with SILVER Rustoleum & a BRUSH. Got laughed at, but it was transportation & it started when temp was -70 once in Wisconsin-—before ‘wind chill’ stats. I pushed started the other 5 cars in the family driveway on the farm.
A 1952 Chevy fastback in 1963.
Am now 79, and these 2 current vehicles have to last until I die.
The newest car on your list is 1979. And you were smart to not buy a Vega. :D
