WASHINGTON (SBG) - In Cochise County, Arizona, the land that runs along the border is dry, rugged and full of paths worn out by drug traffickers and human smugglers.
For Sheriff Mark Dannels, the problem began when the U.S. government decided to build walls and push illegal traffic from cities into remote areas.
It turned his backyard into a highway for everything illegal that comes over the southern border. Until he decided that had to change.
"We have 400 cameras out right now. By the end of the year, well have 700. Were watching all the smuggling trails. Were watching our deserts. Were watching the private lands."
Dannels said every time an image is captured its sent to one of his deputies. Thats led to several arrests and what he claims to be a 100% conviction rate.

Here we go with the “smart border” again.
I wonder if the Sheriff locks his doors at night, or relies on a camera to tell him when someone’s breaking in.
Landmine the dam border. 1st couple of Mexicans going boom will send the message.
And exactly what is being accomplished by watching them come across the border?
Yeah, put the wall up and they wont be able to come across!
From the briefing at the video link it is obvious they are not just relying on cameras. That is a harsh and incorrect criticism. They cameras are a big assistance coupled with a very aggressive effort to arrest.
They are bringing 600 illegals to our town, I think our sheriff is getting an earful, he can prevent it.
I offered to raise money to charter a bus for some of them, I would have them dropped off at the governor’s mansion, she says there is no problem at the border.
They wanted to use churches but they’ve settled on 3 WWII hangars.
Our fire and ambulance department they are all working 12/7 and we only have 16 employees.
We are the poorest county in one of the poorest states and we have our own poor to care for.
I've seen countless Iraqis/Taliban/Jihadist get their 72 vigins courtesy of General Atomics and Ratheon.
Apply those tactics to any vehicle crossing the border south-to-north and not at a point of entry.
If nothing else, the burned out wrecks might give pause to future traffic.
Great idea! Cheaper than a wall. I’m getting sick and tired of all the sob stories about the women and children at the border. This assault on the border is the biggest betrayal and insult to the American people in history. I could care less about these people. My give a damn is busted.
Only at those big beautiful gates and what happens there?
The walls will serve to slow down the thousands that overwhelm the border guards but nothing will slow those coming her that know they will be allowed in only to revive freebies that no citizen can qualify for.
The stick does not deter them because the carrot is just too big.
