From the article:

"Wikipedia joins a growing list of websites that cannot be accessed in China, which in recent years has tightened its grip on access to information online. Google, Facebook and LinkedIn are among the sites already banned, forcing Internet users to use virtual private networks, or VPNS, to bypass what has become known as the “Great Firewall” of China."

China has implemented the Ministry of Truth 100%. Here it’s only 25%.

And yet, I will bet you find people at Time cheering on people being banned on social media in the states for not following their narrative.

"1984" was meant as a warning, not an instruction manual.

Um. I pointed this out a week ago on FR. I guess that they didn’t get the memo. Hey! If you want to read the news try FR.

Thank goodness the Chinese dictators are throttling their citizens. Chinese people are Asians. Asians are smart.

If it were not for their government keeping them down, they’d own us.

This is how you deal with “hate” language and hurt feelings, ban everything. Facebook and Twitter execs should be applauding this move.

When I was in Hong Kong a few years ago I tried to sign on to google to look something up.I entered "google.com" as I always do but, instead, got "google.cn"..."cn" being the code for China.I tried .com over and over but always got .cn.

Having heard about this kind of thing I decided, out of curiosity,to look up "Tienanmen Square" on .cn and got *nothing* but hits showing idyllic images of a peaceful, and empty, place with Mao Tse Tung looking lovingly down from his exalted perch.

Of course when you look it up on .com you get many, many bloody images as well as photos of that guy staring down the tanks and photos of the "Goddess Of Liberty" which looked curiously similar to our Statue Of Liberty.

I don’t trust Wiki at all, knowing how much trouble it is to change inaccurate information on their site, especially business related information.

They need so many “internet sources” to change incorrect information. Trying to prove you’re correct with decades old hardcopy or any legal papers is impossible.

This misinformation gets repeated over and over on other websites because people quote it and because Wiki persists in this misinformation, it becomes “virtual fact” on the internet—even though it’s completely false.
