They long ago decided to reject any notion of a Supreme Being because to accept such would demand they submit themselves to a Power higher than themselves form an opinion despite there being insufficient evidence.

And no, I don't have to propose an alternative explanation; a mere "I don't know / I have yet to be presented with sufficiently convincing evidence" is an entirely appropriate response.
