My experience with this is that in general, the wives do know, but they trap themselves in denial about their husbands’ perversions and sicknesses. Even more so when their husbands are associated with power. Jill almost certainly knows Joe is very very sick and dangerous, sadly she’s deluded herself completely about it and tries to deny it away. Psychologists have a term for it and now sure what it is, but it’s clearly some sort of cognitive dissonance.

I want to say the term that comes to mind is “enabling” or something close to that.
She likely is just another pathetic enabler...and loser. Kind of like a mob boss’s wife.
