House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal (D-Mass.) on Friday announced that he has issued subpoenas for six years of President Trumps tax returns, House Democrats' latest effort to obtain the returns.
Neal said that he issued the subpoenas to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig. The subpoenas direct the officials to send the information to the House panel by 5 p.m. on May 17.
"After reviewing the options available to me, and upon the advice of counsel, I issued subpoenas today to the Secretary of the Treasury and the Commissioner of the IRS for six years of personal and business returns," Neal said in a statement.

No. It. Isn’t.
Seconded.
How many times do these idiots have to be TOLD ?
So, demoncrats want Trumps tax returns...
All I got to say is, how does it feel to WANT, MF’rs.
I keep saying that NO DEM out there knows the different kinds of depreciation used in American tax returns.
Not much chance...
Totally agree, and I’ll go you one better:
They most likely opposed the concept of post-card sized tax returns because that would have shown everybody how they were incapable of filling out even one of those without having to form a working group around their kitchen tables
Everybody always says, The Republicans shouldnt do XYZ when they are in control or the Democrats will do the same! The Democrats dont need any precedence. They are quite capable of pioneering new lows. The question is, will WE follow THEIR precedence when its our turn?
No! The American people are watching as the Democrats demonstrate how willing they are to lie, cheat, smear and subvert the Constitution in their lust for power. The American people are watching while the MSM casts aside any pretense of journalistic integrity or objectivity, and whores itself out to the Democrat party, hoping to share the spoils. The entire Leftist movement is built on a lie: the lie that free enterprise and individual freedom are evil and mankind needs socialist overlords to regulate us and redistribute our wealth as they see fit.
Lies are all they have, and when President Trump calls them out, they despise him for it, they double down on their lies and dirty tricks. We dont need any parts of that - we have something far more powerful - we have the truth on our side.
We absolutely should NOT follow their example, and it has nothing to do with fear of reprisals. I am glad President Trump is a truth teller. The Lefts lies and smears will catch up with them.
so they plan to go from Committee to Committee
Isn’t there supposed to be some reason, other than a fishing expedition?
Well, if the Dems honestly DO need to review how American Presidents complete their tax returns, why shouldn’t the IRS offer the tax returns of President Clinton (and his assorted “Foundations”/(”slush funds”)? I expect that many “loopholes” used to hide “pay-to-play” will be found there.
Of course, President Bill Clinton and his harridan would have to give “consent”. But they’re Democrat, so no problemo...
Trump should send a letter to nasty Nancy and fChuck Schummer stating that next week he will release the names of the congress rats that used taxpayer money to pay off sexual abuse cases. Name names and dollar amounts.
Actually, Neal has just set up a situation where AG Barr can take the subpoena to court based on the DOJ review of the predicate for asking for the tax documents. Along with that PDJT now has a reason to ask the court to quash the subpoena, setting up forcing the House to be specific on what legislative issue they are looking to propose based on the information in these documents. If the reason is to see if IRS is properly auditing a sitting president then they will need to explain why they need tax documents prior to his inauguration.
Also they will need to explain why they have not asked for Obama’s, Bush 43’s, Clinton’s and Bush 41’s tax returns during their presidency. Then, they will need to explain why they have not asked the IRS to provide testimony/reports on how the audit presidential tax returns.
Lastly, there are issues of presidential spouse’s privacy rights based on the returns having spouse income information.
I don’t see the courts, (eventually), buying this a legitimate and not a political ruse for OPPO research for 2020.
The fact that they are having to hold, or threaten to hold, so many in contempt shows what shaky (and contemptible) ground they are on....
