Burr: 2016 Is His Last Election

CLEVELAND — For North Carolina Republican Sen. Richard M. Burr, 2016 will be his final election for the Senate.

Burr told the Tar Heel State GOP delegation Wednesday morning that he would not be running again for the Senate after this November.

He spoke at the delegation's breakfast, ahead of the third night of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Burr said he looked forward to someday calling freshman GOP Sen. Thom Tillis the senior senator from North Carolina.

The decision to not run again after 2016, Burr said, came down to his age and a desire to eventually return to the private sector and spend more time with his family.

"It's real simple," he said. "I'm beginning to get old."

Always Follow the Money.

Senator Burr has obviously already cut his deal or is in the process of negotiating the grand retirement deal and it is quite dependent upon demonstrating his Rino bona fides.

I say again, always follow the money!

The intelligence committee mailroom clerk who was boinking the libtard reporter from the Washington Pish(?) and handing out classified material for her favors threatened to subpoena the whole Intellgence Committee if he was brought to trial, hence he got off on a single charge of lying to the FIB.

Wonder if he can still be charged with a related crime? I would love to see that happen!! Now that would be pay-per-view material!! Butt buddies Burr/Warner are likely the two most corrupt senators in DC, and that’s going some!!

“And his last order of business is to subpoena DJT jr again”

Maybe that is why he won’t be running again.

He shot himself in the foot with that one.

Like McCain, he was probably complicit or read in on, in the attempted set up and take down of President Trump, due to his senior position on the Intelligence Committee.

Good riddance.

Here’s to hoping that the volume of abuse he gets from the public, in terms of phone calls and emails, goes up 10x. Because that’s what he deserves.

Burr and his wife are already very wealthy. She has been a prominent figure in North Carolina residential real estate in the Winston-Salem area. Her agency catered to upper end and specialty properties and is the largest independent real estate firm in the triad with 75 agents. On April 3, 2019 she and her business partner announced they had sold their ownership interest in the agency to a private equity investor, Richard Gefaell for an undisclosed price according to the Winston-Salem Journal.

Interesting timing.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

sure is.

so the question now is: who is Richard Gefaell?

how does this “buy out” compare to dr. mccabe’s campaign donations?

how does this “buy out” compare to comey’s book deal? webb hubble’s book deal?

“so the question now is: who is Richard Gefaell?”

Query him on a search engine. He is supposedly from Charlotte, NC. Nothing comes up. A Robert Gefaell Jr. exists in Charlotte. He is a registered Republican on the voter rolls. Open secrets shows he gives to a small business PAC.

The private equity firm he founded, and was associated with until 2017 is Plexus Capital. He attended Wake Forest University as did Senator Burr.

thanx for digging up info on Gefaell.

imo, from the bloomberg description of his biz, it looks like an aquistion like burr’s realty com would fit right into his wheel house.

maybe it WAS an arms length transaction???

(not that common with today’s “rag to riches” DC pols)

“maybe it WAS an arms length transaction???”

Probably it was an arms length transaction. The Burrs are in their 60’s and likely wish to quietly retire. They live comfortably and piling additional millions on top of their current net worth won’t change their situation. It is doubtful Richard Burr made the decision to subpoena Donald Trump Jr. due to a monetary payoff.

The subpoena of Donald Trump, Jr. has caused quite a stir in NC to the point the other Senator, Tillis, has come out against it. Tillis in the past has spoken out against Trump so him not supporting Burr, or simply remaining silent, has been strange. It is possible the Burr real estate firm will lose listings so the timing of the acquisition from the Burr perspective was fortuitous if not planned.

I’ve watched number of hearings of the Senate Intelligence Committee on C-Span and other networks. The lead Democrat, Mark Warner, is very aggressive, partisan and often a complete jerk. Burr always tries to appear non-partisan and often acquiesces to Warner in order to avoid public confrontation. He always has been a typical Bush Republican, turning the cheek for the appearance of good manners and harmony. For some reason Republican Senators put preserving the appearance of a friendly club ahead of driving the conservative agenda. As long as Republicans in leadership positions continue to be slapped around, the progressive agenda will move forward until the entire nation is like California - completely dominated by the Democrat party.

Perhaps Burr is already semi-retired on the job. Warner may have pulled a tirade behind closed doors, threatening to pull some public stunt. Burr may have simply agreed to the subpoena to mollify him. Clearly McConnell and the rest of the Republicans in the Senate were surprised. Burr should have known the subpoena would enrage the base and should have at least given McConnell a heads up. The fact he apparently didn’t is surprising.

Of course, Burr has already announced his retirement so perhaps he just doesn’t care about the voter base or the future of the party and is starting to behave like Flake and Corker before they left the club. History shows GOP Senators have a tendency to run off the range during their last term. For some strange reason conservative voters consistently vote in Senators who despise them and enjoy sticking it to them in the last term.
