President Trump said the U.S. would move ahead with increasing tariffs on Chinese goods while leaving the door open for a trade deal.

The U.S. increased tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods to 25% Friday as President Trump ratcheted up pressure on Beijing and threatened to impose additional levies on virtually everything China exports to the U.S. The tariff hike went into force hours after U.S. and Chinese negotiators met Thursday in hopes of getting the troubled trade talks back on track.

Trump, negotiate this to win.

Not to break even. Start to be aggressive now.

Announce 25% tariffs an everything from China immediately. Everything. But then announce they will increase to 100% in one month, then 200% in two months, then 500% in three months.

Then, no matter what else is negotiated, do NOT remove the 25% tariffs. Ever.

For any reason.

Need been a fan of tariffs they impact American businesses who in turn throw that cost onto the American consumer. In turn the tariff money from Americans go straight to the big piggy known as government. As if the government doesn’t already get enough money from us

We have taken a lot of US assets, and made them Chinese assets.

Not good. Not at all.

The Chinese were testing Trump.

You can't blame them for probing our defenses. Business (including trade) is war too.

This doesn't bother Trump because he has already indicated that he will frame this as an act by the Chinese solely motivated by their belief that, if Biden is elected, they'll have carte blanche to keep on cheatin'.

This gives Trump an opportunity to stand tough against the Chinese AND get a card to play against Biden as pro-Chinese (which, of course, he is).

Boom.

“The Chinese were testing Trump.”
IMO, the Chinese and NOKS have been reading too many Fake News Media. They think Prez Trump will be gone in 2020 and they want to wait him out.

I think you are correct. But they are mistaken.

Without realizing it, the Chinese and Norks are helping Trump by their threats. They appear menacing and Trump appears strong and resolute.

Helps frame the issues for 2020 in a way that is good for Trump...and bad for the Dems.

“as trade talks resume”...............That’s the whole story in the proverbial nutshell.

All the rest is BS.
