Outcomes matter.

If quick and decisive Military action gets rid of anti-American dictators, and liberates a country to a brighter future as a US ally, it will be easy to forgive.

If the Military action is a sticky screw up, that leaves the hostile regime securely in control, and results in an endless Military commitment, with an endless stream of caskets and amputees, then it will be met with greater opposition.

Or how about a football pool for how long we’ll be mired there? Because neither Iran nor Venezuela is Grenada.

The day after that first bomb flew mission creep would set in.

I don’t want the US to attack Venezuela but I’d be okay with putting a cruise missile right up Maduro’s tail section.

We should sell arms to the Venezuelan opposition, but they need to do the dirty work themselves. The Venezuelan people created their own mess by voting for Maduro's predecessor (Chavez) by wide margins 20 years ago, it shouldn't be our job to clean up their mess. If Colombia or Brazil want to intervene and help with the logistics - particularly with the inevitable flood of refugees, they're more than welcome to.

As to Iran? We should stay out of Iran but also not interfere with Israel if they decide to neutralize any threat inside Iran.

Agree - if Israel or Saudi Arabia think that Iran is a threat, let them go to war with Iran. Iran isn't much of a security threat to us. For one thing, pretty much every terrorist act committed on US or European soil has been perpetrated by Sunni, not Shia, Muslims.

“The day after that first bomb flew mission creep would set in.”

Nope, the bombs wouldn’t stop until they dropped their weapons and cried Uncle. A couple dozen MOABs on their command centers and they would scatter like rats, at least those that survived.

Why on earth would he attack Venezuela?

The left’s obsession with Trump attacking another country is laughable.

Bolton is just Trump’s gangsta pitbull.

Bolton barks and lunges, but Trump holds the leash.

Yes, he was murderous and evil. From hundreds of eyewitnesses, many who are alive today, they saw him blow away innocent unarmed people with a shot point blank to the head. He meant to terrorize ad he was successful at it until the Bolivian Army gave him his earned payback.

It’s outrageous today to see youth glorify him “Che!”. They are ignorant of history.

This was a monster.

You are aware that the Monroe Doctrine also stated that we would stay out of the European sphere of influence? We’re running around Africa, Europe, Ukraine, Georgia, etc.

The way we were able to enforce the Monroe Doctrine, was the fact that we stayed out of that side of the world. We go play in other people’s areas, nobody accepts that we should be given a free hand here.

You forgot the refugees. Play with a turd get crap on your fingers. We had interventions in Somalia Iraq Afghanistan Honduras Guatemala and El Salvador. And we have had waves of immigration from those Nations. If we have a war in Venezuela, will have a wave of Venezuelans in America along with the Mexicans and everything else pouring in these days.

Remember WWII?

It happened ... it followed WWI and fomented WWII.

Do you see a pattern yet?

Based upon what? Where have you ever seen a bombing campaign remove a government? For extra credit, please demonstrate what makes you feel like the American public would support a massive sustained bombing campaign

World War I was where we were cajoled into joining the British. It was a fantastic shot in the arm to every Progressive policy we have in America today. There is a big difference between our participation in World War I, and screwing around in Ukraine, in Libya, in Syria, in Iraq, in Georgia, in Somalia, in Yemen, it’s endless. We would be better off to pay attention to our own hemisphere, and leave the rest of the world to its own devices. And nobody seems to notice we have an enormous problem on our South border. It’s the height of insanity to start a war south of our border, while that border is still not secure. Want another 10 million brown people to come running across the border? Start a war down there

Yeah, World War II. That’s where we prevented Germany from taking over all of Europe and dictating policy to the UK. Oh, and we also saved England from fascist government. Best of all, we made sure that the Germans running Europe did not expand and try to dictate terms to their neighbors.

Oh wait

> Where have you ever seen a bombing campaign remove a government? <

You’re right, DR. So after the bombing ends, we’ll have to send in a few advisers to help the locals finish the job. But wait. Those advisers will need a secure base to operate from.

Okay, so add a secure base and support troops to the list. And infantry to sweep the area around the base. And to go on patrols. Because if you don’t do sweeps and patrols, your base will be an easy target.

I think I’ve seen this movie before.

Get rid of the NeoCon warseekers & win reelection comfortably.

Keep them & start new wars and we will lose.

Secure BOTH of our borders first, with actual ROEs that are efficient and lethal, and purge our nation of those who are here illegally.

Go back to the rule of law.

Then start securing our end of the pool. Communist threat 80 miles off the coast of Florida cones to mind. Give them one year to hold free and fair elections, with no more information than that. No threats. Just a deadline. Move equipment and troops in advance and let the world watch. Dare China and Russia to intervene. If they move weapons to our area, Taiwan and Ukraine can become nuclear armed outposts, convince Japan to join the club.

Not a shot fired - yet - dealing from a position of strength without specific threats.

Cuba would vote. Freely.

Nicaragua and Venezuela would take very close notes.

Lots of tripwires there, but our President has the skills and balls to pull it off.

If Trump goes in to Venezuela massively and does the deed in a short time and is out in 30 days he will not be harmed in November 2020. If he gets bogged down there it will hurt. The fly in the ointment is the V military. If Maduro is kicked out the military has to become subject to command by the new government. If it does not then the surgical strike becomes a bog.

The guy in charge will do what he will do based on his own instincts and his own take on the situation and on his electoral situation.
