Justice Department may advise Trump to claim privilege over Mueller report

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department threatened on Tuesday to completely withhold Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s unredacted report from Congress if House Democrats decide to move ahead with plans to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt.

The department said in a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler any move by Democrats to hold Barr in contempt would compel Barr to “request that the President invoke executive privilege” over the unredacted materials in Mueller’s report that the Democrats previously subpoenaed.

This was reported as breaking news on Shannon Bream’s show on Fox tonight. It sounds like one smart move!

Of course. Nadler’s showboating. He knows the MSM will hardly mention, if at all, that it would be illegal for Barr to release everything. Everything Mueller did, was for effect. Normally, only the AG sees the report. All that matters is the bottom line -— no indictment. But democrats are desperate, even more so now.

It was ridiculous that Nadler wanted Barr to commit illegality by releasing grand jury material.

Just as they tried to egg Trump on to do something illegal (or appeared illegal) they are trying to egg Barr on to break the law by giving them an unredacted report. Then they destroy him and lay the mud on Trump.

I’d say the odds are a billion to one shot Barr falls for it.

Barr isn’t. DOJ counter offered to let more than the four Nadler, Schiff, Nunez, and Doug Collins (?) see everything but grand jury redacted report. So far as I know Nunez and Collins has, along with at least McCarthy. No Ds have though. DOJ offered to open it up to 16 I believe. What those 16 are I do not know.

The IDIOT Napolitano was spouting that Trump had surrendered all rights to executive privilege by cooperating with Mueller, and that anything he gave to Mueller was automatically available to congress. He was all matter-of-fact as if there were some precedent. An asinine opinion, but I have no doubt that there are plenty of “Obama Judges” that would see it the same way. I think we are well past the time for Trump to assert the authority of the Executive Branch. Work with the majority in the Senate and tell the House to pound sand.

There is indeed a 99.995% unredacted version that just sits there waiting to be looked at. 2 republicans have looked at it.

The democrats are pretending they’re having an impeachment hearing in order to fundraise for 2020. Unless they produce something Anything! they’re going to go up against the Trump juggernaut in 2020 with about $16.80 in the DNC coffers-

It’s not looking really good at the moment for the identity politics party. They got a queer mayor from Indiana, a 76 year old child fondler, a menopausal harpie from California and a fake ass injun to go up against the Greatest Economy since the original Chevy Camaro rolled off showroom floors.

I was pretty suspicious of Barr when he was nominated based on his long term friendship with Mueller, but he has greatly exceeded my expectations. Nappy on the other hand, is a scumbag, and his legal opinions have never carried any weight. I have no idea why Fox keeps him around, as he is never right.

I don’t know why FNC still has him around. FNC doesn’t realize what Nappy is doing to their reputation as a news organization.

“Barr shouldn’t release the unreacted material whether he’s held in contempt or not. I’m surprised to read that the DOJ is making it conditional on that. It shouldn’t make any difference.”

Bravo. I picked up on the same thing.

What keeps the executive from playing hardball? Appearences are everything, and the executive APPEARS to be weak while the demmonrats appear to be holding the high cards.

Now, i realize other documents are expected to be made public, but tje redactions could have been made long ago. But then Trump said he would be putting unredacted stuff out there.

The fact that those things haven’t happened makes it look like it’s purely defensive, kneejerk actions based on fear.

Since this plan has been in action for some time, tou would think it would all be lined up and ready to go as in carpetbomb time. Instead, it looks like they really don’t have much.

Even Barr is looking like a weakling so I’m a bit perplexed by all of this.

Anyone else?

Claims of executive privilege are obstruction. Contemplating firing Mueller is obstruction. Anything that doesn’t give Congress whatever it wants, Trump’s head on a platter, is obstruction. Anything that makes Nadler bang his head against the wall and say “I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT IT!” like Herman Munster is obstruction. OAC is now POTUS, because refusing her in any way is obstruction.

Shepard Smith needs him for his ventriloquist routine.

As soon as that unredacted report is released with the “underlying information” then laws are broken and the next move will be to demand the arrest all the Trump officials who had anything to do with it and to scream IMPEACHMENT because of the lawbreaking.
