At least 13 people were killed in a fire on a Russian airliner forced to make a hard emergency landing at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport on Sunday, officials said.
Russia's Investigative Committee said two children were among the dead but did not immediately provide further details.
Airport officials said Aeroflot flight SU1492, a Sukhoi SSJ-100 regional jet, had taken off for the northern city of Murmansk before it was forced to turn around with 73 passengers and five crew members on board.

Prayers for air travel industry in general. For safety.
The race for mass production isnt doing the general flying public favors. Boeing is already compromised in its race against Airbus.
China, Brazil, and Russia want a piece of commercial airplane market as well. Internationally. Selling their planes for cheap and whatnot.
Prayers for the lost and for the comfort of their families.

What struck me was how long it took to get ONE emergency vehicle headed to the burning aircraft.
Sad, too, is they’ll probably leave the wreckage right where it is. That’s what they did in the 70s so maybe they’ve improved.
Wow! Amazing that anyone survived that incident! The rear of the aircraft was fully engulfed in flames in the air!
Cargo hold fire?
‘A source told RIA that the fire was caused by a malfunction of electrical equipment.”

Same “cause” as the Notre Dame Cathedral fire
Knowing how much I HATE to be stuffed into one of those horrible reginal jets, I can only imagine the pure horror those poor passengers suffered. Must have been a lot like getting trapped in a burning tank. Prayers up.
self-igniting case of koranus.
Horrible
A race to beat competition has nothing to do with this plane. It first flew 11 years ago.
On the airfield at SVO? I seriously doubt that. That is a seriously busy airport.
Take each crash on a case by case basis. And this was a domestic flight. Fair. I just happened to have done some reading up on China, Brazil, and Russia’s aspirations to compete with Boeing and Airbus. Mind you, these are still *aspirations* at this point, not realities.
But there’s no denying there are general trends in global aviation culture which are alarming. It’s like we’ve all gone Soviet in our standards but under capitalist auspices.
The Sukhoi Superjet-100 was the first civilian aircraft developed in the country’s post-Soviet era.
At the time of its launch, in 2011, it was a source of national pride and seen as one of Putin’s pet projects.
But numerous technical problems with the plane have been reported in recent years and Russia has struggled to convince foreign carriers to purchase it.
The government offered subsidies to encourage Russian airlines to buy the Superjet and Aeroflot has became its main operator.
In September 2018, it announced a record order of 100 Superjet-100s.
After the tragedy some suggested that Russia may be better off abandoning the Sukhoi Superjet altogether. - AP/yahoo.com

Looks like half the plane’s passengers were on fire before it came to a stop.
