Do mind the extra details on vacancies?

15 Future Vacancies

looks like most vacancies are “Senior”
“Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges and judges in some state court systems. A judge must be at least 65 years of age and have served in federal courts for at least 15 years to qualify, with one less year of service required for each additional year of age.
When that happens, they receive the full salary of a judge but have the option to take a reduced caseload, although many senior judges choose to continue to work full-time. Additionally, senior judges do not occupy seats; instead, their seats become vacant, and the president may appoint new full-time judges to fill their spots.”
Five confirmations was a good week but, sadly, it is not a typical week. We began this year with 144 federal judicial vacancies. And after these five confirmation we still have 144 vacancies. So, after one third of the year 2019 has passed, the Senate has managed to confirm only 17 judges but during this same period 17 new vacancies have accrued.
We can do much better. President Trump has been fortunate to be President during a time when a huge number of federal judges will be retiring (or taken senior status which also create fillable vacancies). The Republican Senate and President Trump.should set a goal of having almost all 144 of these current vacancies filled by confirmed Trump judges. And, not to worry, there be a continuing flow of new vacancies. Lets not take the risk of passing on to the next President too many vacant judgeships. That next President may not nominate judges of the same quality as Trump is nominating.
I am glad, but you know, I am only a human, and I am so impatient. There is at least 50 years of corruption that needs to be undone.
We need to maintain the pace of an average of 5 or more judge confirmations per week, in order to clear the backlog by year end.
We need to have all these Trump judges in place before 2020, before the craziness starts in earnest.
The other point is that senior judges can not take part in en banc panels, which are the appeals process.
Hopefully the pace will step up now that Mitch has finally extended the nuclear option. Two more judges have cloture filed and should be voted on next week.
#116 Joseph Bianco to be U.S. Circuit Judge for the Second Circuit
#117 Michael Park to be U.S. Circuit Judge for the Second Circuit
3 nominees for import export bank also have cloture filed.
Total Vacancies:144 Total Nominees Pending:59
The totals given do not reflect the 5 nominated on May 3th
the 12 on April 8th, nor 2 from April 2nd. Two from early April, Grimberg & Volk are reflected in the numbers above.
So there are ~ 20 nominees not included in the total
How nice to hear that Republican Senators are finally starting to do what they were elected to do.
I bitch about Mitch, but this is about the most important thing done under the radar in years. Putting sane and thoughtful judges in is one of the most important things for the future of this country.
Get those Circuit Court Judges in place.
Run through as many district court judges as possible of course but place top emphasis on the Circuit Court vacancies.
Keep going Mitch, soon you will be replacing them faster than they die off.
Agreed.
POTUS/Mitch are actually doing very well with Circuit Judges
openings
2nd Circuit 2 opening both with Nominees (Bianco, Park) and two future openings
3rd Circuit 1 opening with a nominee as of Friday (Peter J. Phipps)
5th CIRCUIT 1 opening no nominee (POTUS already filled 5 open seats in 5th circuit)
9TH CIRCUIT 4 openings with 3 nominees (Blumenfeld, Rosen, Scarsi)
9TH CIRCUIT 4 openings with 3 nominees (Bress, Collins & Lee)
The set above are district... Sorry
