How can asylum seekers possibly be expected to explain their “credible fears” of persecution. etc. when they have not yet received free legal counsel, housing, food, and medical care?
Totally unreasonable. This may result in diminishing the number of much needed undocumented migrant workers who have trekked thousands of miles to our southern border but only coincidentally could not find their way to a lawful point of entry at which to present themselves to seek asylum.

We should start a disinformation campaign encouraging asylum-seekers to present themselves as “conservatives” forced to flee their respective countries because of socialist regimes seeking to kill them. Democrats would become very confused about whether to let these people in and would support immediate border restrictions to sort this problem out.
The reality is these folks are not seeking asylum. They are lying about it. At most they are refugees from the financial repercussions of rampant socialism. Our annual cap for refugees is 30,000 (down from 45,000 last year and down even more from Obama era limits). But we have millions of “refugees” and opportunity-seekers presenting themselves as fleeing persecution.
This new process may finally be the way to curtail the flood of illegal immigrants. We’ll see. Regardless...
